The Lutson Workshop

Artists & Master Artisans

Since 1988, Lutson has been designing and manufacturing gilt-leather using authentic techniques, blending sustainable materials with craftsmanship passed down through generations.

The start in Ghent

In the mid-eighties Lut De Paepe & Fred Poppe glass stainers by trade started digging into the archives of the justifiably renowned, yet lost and forgotten art of the Gilt-Leather, which were the pride of the low-countries during the golden age.

Next Generation

Lutson produces gilt-leather using authentic techniques and skilled craftsmanship in a modern continuation of this centuries-old trade. As a family-owned business, we face the future with confidence; the older generation has trained the next, adding new methods and materials to expand our range without compromising our original philosophy.

Today, we offer a wide variety of historical models, available on traditional leather or robust vegan-compatible materials.

The Gascon Spirit

At the feet of the French Pyrénees, hidden in the remote valley of the Adour, we decided to settle down and operate our manufacture of Gilt-Leather. This region called Gascony is known for its famous Armagnac, its wines and of course “ Le Foie Gras”.

Its inhabitants in sharp contrast to the gentile pétanque players you will encounter around the Mediterranean are wetter rough rugby players or nimble & elegant bull fighters. Gascony produced many local heroes yet all fade when compared to the one and only d’Artagnan (1610 – 1673) His spirit reigns in master over the region, moves the crowds and I swear in the local festivities you still feel his presence.

Yes, this is the “Département du Gers” the heart of Gascony, the middle of nowhere.
